The Iyengar method of Yoga focuses on alignment in the postures (asanas).  Students use props as needed, so that those of all ages, body types, and levels of flexibility may perform a variation of the pose.

Mr. Iyengar has systematised over 200 classical yoga Asanas and 14 different types of Pranayamas (with variations of many of them) from the simple to the incredibly difficult. These have been structured and categorised so as to allow a beginner to progress surely and safely from basic postures to the most advanced as they gain flexibility, strength and sensitivity in mind, body and spirit.

Hi Annette, I would be pleased to comment on my Iyengar yoga  practice with you as my teacher.  I have been taking a weekly Iyengar yoga class with Annette Raj for over four years.  I am now 67 years old or young and the thing I appreciate the most is Annette's ability to adapt a pose for my limitations so that I can get the most benefit from it without making me feel embarrased or less than capable.   The classes with Annette have  helped me with flexibility, balance, and strength.  All of which are so important to my feeling healthy and good about where I  am at this stage of my life.  I have used the breathing techniques she has instructed us to help relieve stress and reduce pain.  The classes are always a respite from the hectic world we live in.   --  Sharon Weiss
